Man Utd transfer news: Kobbie Mainoo makes transfer decision as agent makes certain claim
It’s been a busy 24 hours at Manchester United with the club announcing the sacking of Ruben Amorim. The Portuguese coach was shown the door on Monday morning, following the weekend’s 1-1 draw with Leeds and his comments after that game.
The decision brought to an end a 14-month spell with Amorim in charge of the club. Under the manager, United struggled for consistency. They currently sit in sixth place in the Premier League table.
For United’s hierarchy, work will be going on behind the scenes to find a replacement, with Darren Fletcher currently in interim charge. He is expected to take the team for their Premier League game away at Burnley on Wednesday night.
As well as the search for a new manager, and games coming thick and fast, we are also now into the January transfer window. United have been linked with potential incomings and outgoings for the last few months, and work is likely to still be going on behind the scenes.
With that in mind, here is a look at some of the latest transfer news and rumours from in and around Old Trafford.
Triple transfer twist
The departure of Amorim could potentially have an impact on the future of United players in the squad during the January transfer window. The Daily Mail report that Kobbie Mainoo, Joshua Zirkzee and Manuel Ugarte were all ‘desperate’ to leave Old Trafford before the end of the month had the manager still been in charge.
All three players struggled for regular game time under the Portuguese coach and had been linked with moves away from the club. Napoli have been strongly linked with an interest in Mainoo, while Roma were said to be making a move for Zirkzee.
Those potential exits could now however be potentially put on hold given Amorim’s exit from the club.
United may want to bide their time and a new manager is likely to want to take a closer look at his squad before making any transfer decisions. The trio could also see it as an opportunity to revive their Old Trafford careers.
Target’s agent speaks out
The agent of United-linked Yehor Yarmolyuk has spoken out about his client's future, amid reported interest from United. last year, it was reported that the Brentford midfielder had been added to a list of potential targets as the club look to strengthen their midfield.
However, speaking to TalkSPORT, Vadim Shablii has hinted that the player is not looking for a move in January. "Right now, Yehor is in the right place, and all his thoughts are focused on becoming an indispensable player and a leader in Brentford’s starting XI,” he said.
"During this summer transfer window, there was interest in him from clubs in Italy, Germany, and, of course, England — but everything has its time," Shablii continued.
"He is happy to be at Brentford at the moment, but I am certain that there will be even greater interest in him in the future."
