US aircraft carrier to go to port after fire and 'blocked toilets'
The US aircraft carrier Gerald R Ford, currently operating in the Red Sea, is expected to make a temporary port call in Souda Bay, Crete, following a fire on board.
The fire, which broke out in the ship's main laundry area, resulted in nearly 200 sailors receiving treatment for smoke-related injuries and impacted around 100 sleeping berths.
America's newest and largest warship has been deployed for nine months, participating in operations against Iran and previously Venezuela.
The carrier has reportedly faced significant problems with its toilet system, including clogs and long queues for facilities.
The extended deployment has prompted questions regarding the morale of the sailors and the overall readiness of the warship.
