Prabowo welcomes Qatari deputy PM at Merdeka Palace

 President Prabowo Subianto welcomed Qatari Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Defense Sheikh Saoud bin Abdulrahman bin Hassan bin Ali Al-Thani at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta 

According to an official statement on Monday, Sheikh Saoud conveyed a special message from Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani to President Prabowo during the meeting.

The meeting, held in the presidential office at Merdeka Palace, took place behind closed doors. The Palace also did not disclose the specific message from the Qatari Emir to President Prabowo.

"Sheikh Saoud conveyed a special message from the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, to President Prabowo. The president welcomed the message and the attention conveyed by the Emir of Qatar and reaffirmed Indonesia's commitment to continuing to strengthen bilateral relations with Qatar," as quoted from the Presidential Secretariat press release.

Previously, President Prabowo and Deputy Prime Minister Sheikh Saoud discussed numerous issues related to cooperation between the two countries in various sectors, including those agreed upon in the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed on April 13, 2025.

The MoU signing, which relates to the Strategic Dialogue between the Governments of Indonesia and Qatar, was witnessed by President Prabowo and Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani in Doha, Qatar.

The strategic dialogue forum between the two countries is intended to strengthen cooperation across key areas, including foreign and regional policy; defense and security; counterterrorism; economic ties, especially trade and investment; as well as cultural exchange and people-to-people relations.

The Presidential Secretariat described the meeting between President Prabowo and Deputy Prime Minister Sheikh Saoud as being conducted in a warm and friendly atmosphere.

This meeting is part of ongoing efforts by Indonesia and Qatar to strengthen a strategic partnership that not only benefits both countries but also contributes to regional stability and prosperity, according to a statement from the Presidential Secretariat.
