Will Lionel Messi be suspended for slapping Philadelphia Union player?

Wednesday's MLS match between Inter Miami and Philadelphia Union had no shortage of bad blood. A brawl broke out moments before the match ended in a 2-2 draw, with Philadelphia's Cavan Sullivan and Miami's Yannick Bright both getting red cards.

Miami's Ian Fray stepped over a fallen Quinn Sullivan, Cavan's brother, who responded by slamming him into the ground. Chaos proceeded to ensue as Cavan ran down to defend Quinn and got into a shoving match with Bright.

Cavan and Bright are each suspended for their team's next match, while Quinn got a yellow card for his role in the skirmish. One player who faced no immediate punishment is Lionel Messi, and it may have been because the officials missed a key moment.

Messi slapped Quinn on the back of the neck before going head-to-head with him. The closest official didn't see the slap but ran over to separate the two as soon as he saw them getting testy.

Here's the latest on Messi.

Will Lionel Messi get suspended for slapping Quinn Sullivan?

The MLS' Disciplinary Committee is investigating Messi's actions, according to Inter Miami reporter Jose Armando. It's more likely he'll get fined than suspended, per MLS' competition guidelines.

Here's how MLS handles players putting hands on the face, head or neck of an opponent: "Individuals witnessed to have contacted the face, head, and/or neck of an opponent, which incites or escalates an individual incident (as determined by the Disciplinary Committee) and/or an incident that results in mass confrontation (as determined by the Disciplinary Committee), will receive a minimum of a fine."

So, there you have it. At some point soon we'll know for sure whether Messi will be available for Inter Miami's next match against Toronto FC on Saturday.
