Report: Trump's anger over plot to take down Barron and Melania
It's an image Democrats have long envisioned: The president's youngest and most private son Barron Trump raising his right hand and promising to tell an assembly of hostile congressional investigators that he'll tell the whole truth.
If the party wins back a controlling majority in either congressional chamber in the midterm elections come November, they intend to make those dreams of investigating the Trump family a reality.
'There's enough Trump family corruption to go around,' Representative Jamie Raskin, a top Democrat on the House Judiciary Committee, said in an interview last month.
'I don’t think we have to worry about that. We will just be dividing it up.'
And no member of the Trump family will be considered off limits, a top Democratic political strategist said, telling the Daily Mail that for the first time, 20-year-old Barron and First Lady Melania Trump will be targeted.
'Leave no stone unturned,' the source said. 'No sacred cows for the most corrupt family in American history.'
Trump is said to be 'angry' but 'not surprised' about the threats, sources tell the Daily Mail, as the president and his allies are preparing the entire family for two years of intense investigations.
'Democrats have nothing to run on, so they attack the president, members of his cabinet, and members of his family instead of offering real solutions to help voters,' a White House official told the Daily Mail. 'It's embarrassing.'
Democrat calls for Barron Trump to testify
The West Wing also signaled its disgust with Democratic efforts.
'Democrats targeted President Trump and his family with witch hunts and hoaxes for over a decade,' White House spokeswoman Lauren Bis told the Daily Mail, as she dismissed 'years of lies and false accusations against him and his businesses from the fake news media.'
Democrats have signaled they intend to target Barron after making demands for him to provide details of his private communications for scrutiny.
Last July, Representative Yassamin Ansari of Arizona requested that Barron testify and provide records for any possible contact with right-wing influencers Andrew and Tristan Tate after they were arrested in Miami.
'I absolutely want to see Barron Trump come before Congress and answer questions about this,' Ansari said at the time.
'Barron Trump is an adult... he is somebody who is deeply involved in Trump's orbit and this whole man-o-sphere, and he has a lot of influence and so he needs to be held accountable.'
The Trump family ignored Ansari's push, Democrats, being in the minority, were unable to issue a subpoena.
In Trump's second term, Barron has been more involved with the family's interests and the president's political relationships with powerful influencers.
He also has a founding role in the Trump family's World Liberty Financial cryptocurrency business, together with Donald Trump Jr and Eric Trump. That deal has added more than a billion dollars to the Trump family's wealth.
Democrats view the cryptocurrency enterprise as one of the top targets for investigation, as the president moved to make the United States the 'crypto capital of the world.'
Trump's other children have also faced additional scrutiny into their personal and financial activities.
Trump family faces scrutiny
Democratic Representative Robert Garcia sent a letter Tuesday requesting information from Ivanka Trump's husband Jared Kushner and his investment firm Affinity Partners.
The letter cited a congressional investigation into 'the unprecedented and dangerous ways in which President Trump and his family have profited directly from their access to power' as Kushner, 45, works on diplomatic efforts in the Middle East.
Trump Jr, 48, was criticized after Russian oligarch Umar Kremlev helped pay for celebrations surrounding his private wedding to 39-year-old Palm Beach socialite Bettina Anderson in the Bahamas in May. Trump Jr moved to quell the controversy by repaying Kremlev's expenditures.
Tiffany Trump's business executive husband Michael Boulos faced scrutiny in June for sitting in meetings with Secretary of State Marco Rubio and other Middle East leaders.
Even Trump's 19-year-old granddaughter Kai Trump was criticized by Democrats after she modeled her personal clothing brand at the White House.
With the stakes against the Trump family so high, some experts are wondering why Melania is not more involved on the campaign trail to support congressional Republicans.
While First Ladies Jill Biden and Michelle Obama routinely held political events for Democratic candidates in the midterms, political insiders told the Daily Mail they never expected Melania to embrace the campaign lifestyle.
'I think she just hates politics and she's putting up with it, but she's checked out,' one Republican strategist told the Daily Mail.
But the first lady will be unable to check out of the family's anticipated troubles over the next two years.
Trump's legal team is already prepping behind the scenes to stage a robust defense of his family, sources familiar with the efforts tell the Daily Mail.
Trump's MAGA Inc Super PAC has raised over $400 million dollars, a portion of which is being saved for the family's defenses in upcoming investigations should Democrats take power.
A significant portion of the funds are first being used in the midterm elections to boost Republicans. But polling averages show that Republicans face strong political headwinds in November with a very real likelihood of losing the House and the Senate.
